Visitors to Canon’s flagship EXPO event (13-15 October, Paris) had the opportunity to see a host of new professional print solutions aimed at helping customers push their creative boundaries within imaging markets. The event featured a dedicated zone for print service providers, where attendees engaged with a wide and diverse range of new technologies, techniques and applications.
Canon selected EXPO to debut a number of new products, including its latest imagePRESS technology, the C10000VP. Developed in response to customer demand for high quality and high speed in the mid-production market segment, the model is a perfectly balanced press capable of consistent, vibrant output on a variety of media.
Elsewhere was the VarioPrint i300, an inkjet press that is designed to bridge the speed and capacity gap between high-end toner cutsheet printers and entry-level continuous-feed inkjet presses, helping PSPs to consolidate sheet-fed monochrome and colour workflows onto one system.
In terms of the large format market, the ColorWave 910 – the fastest in the range yet – answers the needs of PSPs and in-house departments in architecture, engineering and construction (AEC), CAD and GIS environments, as well as those in the commercial print sector to meet the trend for reactive, short-term POS marketing campaigns. On the software front, customers were shown how PRISMAdirect enables customers to streamline their entire production workflow, from file acquisition to job delivery.
Moving away from traditional printing, there were samples of Canon’s pioneering Super Creative Printing technology, which uses high-sensitivity cameras to scan and record the exact details of a 3D object before the innovative technology makes it possible to add a tactile extra dimension via multiple layers of ink. Meanwhile, a 3D printed replica of the Rugby World Cup trophy, the Webb Ellis Cup, was on display – produced via Canon’s partner, 3D Systems.
