Some Access Points (sometimes referred to as Routers or Hubs) feature an automatic connection button labelled “WPS” (which stands for Wi-Fi Protected Setup) this allows permitted devices to connect to your network without needing to enter a password. This enables a quick and easy method of connecting your devices.

There are two ways the WPS method can connect devices together over a wireless connection. One is "pushbutton" and the other is "PIN". The “pushbutton” method is by far the easiest way of connecting your device, so we will describe how to connect using this method.

If your router does not support WPS we have provided alternative instructions to get your printer connected so please select the 'Standard Connection Method' tab below.

WPS Connection Method

Before we start, there are however some conditions that must be met in order to use the WPS push button method:

  • The access point must have a physical WPS push button available, please check with your device’s user guide for details.
  • Your network must be using the WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) or WPA2 security protocol. Most WPS enabled access points will not connect using the WPS method if the WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) security method is used, or if no security is enabled. For details on which security method is being used on your wireless network, please check the wireless connection settings on your computer.

Please follow the steps below to complete the setup -

Step 1

1. Make sure that the printer is turned on and the WPS button on the wireless router is accessible to be pressed when required.

Step 2

2. Press and hold the [Wi-Fi] button (A) on the printer until the ON lamp (B) flashes.

Step 3

3. Press [Black] button (C) and then the [Wi-Fi] button (A); make sure the Wi-Fi lamp (D) flashes quickly and the ON lamp is lit as shown in illustration below. Then then go to your access point and press the [WPS] button within 2 minutes.

Step 4

4. The blue Wi-Fi lamp on the printer will continue to flash while searching, and the Power and Wi-Fi lamps will both flash when connecting to the access point. When the printer has successfully made a connection to your wireless network, the Power and Wi-Fi lamps will stop flashing and remain lit.

Step 5

5. Make sure that the Wi-Fi lamp and the ON lamp are lit.

For exact details regarding pressing the WPS button, please refer to your access point manual.

Network settings confirmation

To confirm that your printer is successfully connected to your wireless network, you can print out the network settings of your printer if you wish:

1. Make sure that your printer is turned on.

2. Load two sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper.

3.Press and hold the [Wi-Fi]icon button until the Power icon lamp flashes once and then release it.

4.Press the [Wi-Fi]icon button and the network information page will be printed.

When referring to the printout, check that “Connection” indicates “Active” and that the SSID -Service Set Identifier (the name of your wireless network) indicates the correct name of your wireless network.

This concludes the WPS setup procedure.

Please now install the provided software.

If you do not have the CD(’s) that came with your product, or you are a Mac user, please download the software.

If the WPS wireless setup is still failing after following this guide, please contact us for further assistance.

Standard connection method (For Windows & Mac users only)

Restoring your printer’s network settings back to factory default

If you need to reset your network settings back to factory default, for example if you change your access point, you can do so by following these instructions.

Please note that initialisation erases all network settings on the machine, so printing or scanning from a computer over the network will become impossible until the printer is re-configured with new network settings.

Step 1

1. Press and hold the [RESUME/CANCEL] reset button until the ALARM lamp flashes 21 times.

Step 2

2. Release the [RESUME/CANCEL] reset button.

The network settings have been reset back to factory default settings.

Please now refer to the Wi-Fi setup – (WPS and Standard Connection methods) for instructions on setting up your printer onto your Wi-Fi network.
