Canon Europe supports innovation in imaging

with ‘Bright Minds, Beautiful Ideas’ design exhibition sponsorship

Canon Europe has become an official sponsor of the ‘Bright Minds, Beautiful Ideas’ design exhibition, a travelling exhibition that showcases the artwork of four European designers, from different time-periods and their parallel representations of the meaning of design.

The exhibition has been established to question the meaning of design in today’s world and to also better understand the role of mass consumption in making design an accepted and important part of every-day life.

The first ‘Bright Minds, Beautiful Ideas’ exhibition will be held in Lisbon from September 18 to November 30 2003. The exhibition will also travel to Rotterdam during Spring 2004 and plans are underway to take the exhibition to Barcelona, New York and Milan in 2004/5.

Canon’s sponsorship package will provide the designers with cameras and a selection of lenses to take photographs of their work and their own lives before and during the exhibitions. Canon’s large format printers will be used to reproduce the initial images that will be show-cased and additional photographs taken by the artists to record the exhibition will be projected onto special designed screens and walls using 14 Canon beamers during the exhibitions.

James Leipnik, Chief of Communication and Corporate Relations at Canon Europe, said: “‘Bright Minds, Beautiful Ideas’ is a great sponsorship opportunity for Canon as it reflects many of our own values, including our goal to support creativity, inspiration and innovation in digital art and design.  Using Canon’s imaging technology ‘Bright Minds, Beautiful Ideas’ will present exceptional artwork in an interesting and innovative way and is an excellent platform for us to showcase our products in an artistic environment, to a wide international audience.”

‘Bright Minds, Beautiful Ideas’ is a further example of Canon’s commitment to encouraging the growth of digital art.  Another example of this commitment is the Canon Digital Creators Contest, which was established in 2000 to recognise innovation and reward professional and amateur artists of the digital revolution.
