Canon is now in its fourth year of sponsorship of the tournament, which will be hosted in Angola and be the biggest sporting event in the nation’s history.
Every two years the MTN Africa Cup of Nations sees 16 of the continent’s strongest national teams challenge each other in 32 matches to see who will be crowned champions of Africa, a title currently held by Egypt. The tournament promises to produce three weeks of exhilarating football watched by a global TV audience in its billions.
The previous tournament
The 2008 tournament took place in Ghana during January and February and saw the host nation make it to the last four, eventually losing 1-0 to Cameroon in the first semi final. Egypt overcame the Ivory Coast 4-1 in the second semi final to set up a clash with Cameroon. The final saw Egypt beat Cameroon 1-0 to retain the trophy they won at home in 2004. They will now get the chance to go for three in a row in 2010.
Our continued support of the tournament highlights our commitment to the emerging markets in the Middle East and African regions. By helping fans capture the greatest moments of the tournament through our imaging technologies, we encourage everyone to be as passionate about the power of image as we.
